What is the Kratom Powder Toss and Wash?
Out of the many ways you can consume your daily serving of Kratom, one of the most popular methods is to do a quick “Toss and Wash”. You’ve probably heard this phrase before - it’s the ole faithful for many seasoned Kratom users.
The ‘toss and wash’ method is when you place a measured amount of raw Kratom powder directly into your mouth and use a beverage to swish and swallow the Kratom powder. This simple method is convenient and effective - many users even claim that this is the best, most fast-acting way to take Kratom.
It may seem pretty straightforward, but there are some tips and tricks you should know that will make your experience much easier, especially if you’re a Kratom Newbie. As always, your friends at Happy Hippo are here to help! In this article, we are going tell you everything that we know about the notorious toss and wash method. Why Use the Toss and Wash Method?
The main purpose of the toss and wash method is to get the job done quickly without much fuss. It’s simple yet effective. It doesn’t require any substantial products or uncommon equipment. Anyone can do this method as long as they have a small supply of Kratom powder!
Ingesting Kratom powder directly through the mouth and consuming all parts of the plant matter is key to a well-rounded resonation. Tossing and washing is exactly that, which is why so many people swear by this method.
How Much Kratom Do You Need to Toss and Wash?
Short answer - not much! Just your typical serving size.
An average serving size of Kratom powder is around 1-5 grams for most users. You can use a teaspoon to help you measure!
When tossing and washing, try to keep your serving LOW. If your serving size is above 2 teaspoons, we recommend trying our alternative toss and wash method (see below). Too large of a serving will be terribly difficult to swallow and significantly increases the risk of choking. Play it safe and start with small amounts to evaluate.
Kratom Powder Toss and Wash - Step by Step
What You Need:
- Measuring spoon
- Your desired Kratom powder
- Water or another cool beverage
How To Toss and Wash Kratom Powder:
- Make sure your beverage is on hand and ready-to-go.
- Measure out your desired serving of Kratom power with your spoon. Be mindful not to take too much.
- Pour the Kratom powder onto the center of your tongue being very careful not to inhale it.
- Quickly add a swig of your beverage to your mouth and swish the contents around to mix.
- Swallow carefully.
- Follow with an additional drink to wash it all down.
Keep in mind, Kratom has an extremely bitter taste. The toss and wash method does not completely eliminate the taste, but it does help. If you absolutely cannot stand the taste of Kratom, we recommend trying Kratom Capsules. Capsules will totally knock out the unpleasant bitter taste!
RECOMMENDED Alternative Toss and Wash Method
Swallowing raw Kratom powder can be difficult. It certainly takes a little bit of practice followed by patience to master this technique. It’s not easy to choke down several grams of Kratom, especially if you require a larger serving size. Putting dry powder in your mouth can cause you to gag, or worse, accidentally inhale it.
So, how can you make things a little easier for yourself? The answer is to PRE-MIX the power in your beverage before drinking as demonstrated in this video by ThirdEye Media.
Prepare your serving and thoroughly mix it in a small amount of WARM water. Seriously, warm water is KEY. Cold water causes the powder to clump which is extremely undesirable. Once combined, add a dash of cool water or fruit juice and drink it up!
Mixing your powder before swallowing it is so helpful. Trust me, you’ll notice a big difference if you were struggling with that before. We like to call this the “evolved” version of tossing and washing!
Kratom Powder Toss and Wash: Pro-Tips
Water or a non-carbonated, natural fruit juice will work best for tossing and washing. If you use Kratom multiple times a day, we recommend primarily using water to increase hydration.
Try to heap the Kratom powder in the center of your tongue to maximize your ability to control the powder as you swish. This will help avoid gagging.
NEVER try to swallow dry Kratom powder without a beverage. (Remember the cinnamon challenge?)
- If your normal serving size is more than 2 teaspoons, we recommend splitting it and doing two separate toss and washes. Or use a different method entirely.

Other Ways of Taking Kratom
The Toss and Wash method works well for a lot of people, but there are other effective ways to take Kratom, too. Trying different methods is always great because you may end up finding something that works even better. Don’t be afraid to switch things up every once in a while!
Let’s briefly go over some other methods of taking Kratom.
Kratom Tea is simply taking Kratom powder and creating a beverage out of the plant matter. This can be done in a multitude of ways, ranging from simple techniques that take 30 seconds or less to other recipes that need steeping time.
Kratom Capsules consist of Kratom powder encapsulated into a pill-like form. Each capsule usually contains about a ½ gram of powder. Capsules are super convenient and preferred for people who don’t like the taste of Kratom.
- Kratom Extracts are created by taking Kratom Powder and doing an extraction process to isolate the alkaloids in the plant. Isolating the alkaloids makes the Kratom super potent. Extracts can be found in many different forms, but the most common are liquid extracts or Kratom Shots.
The toss and wash technique is a great way to take your Kratom if you’re looking for an easy, fast-acting, and effective experience. This method has been used for many years, and it has become one of the most popular ways to use Kratom due to the sheer simplicity of it.
Of course, there are pros and cons that you should consider before trying. Tossing and washing has proven to be difficult for some people. Putting dry powder in your mouth increases your risk of coughing or choking. It may take a little bit of “trial and error” to master this technique. And luckily, if this method doesn’t work for you, there are plenty of other ways to take Kratom effectively.
All in all, to determine which method of taking Kratom will work best for you, do your research! As well, try to be open to trying something new. You know yourself better than anyone else - so use that knowledge to your advantage!
